Interesting article.
Today is New Year's Eve. I fixed this machine finally. Now the server is running on a RAID-1 array. Not too bad.
It's said that one should wear red in their ben ming nian to ward off bad luck. The past year was my ben ming nian---the Year of the Rooster. Hurrah, it's over.
Happy Chinese New Year!
I plan to make a RAID-1 array using two 80GB hd. This would mean some down time of cssa. :-( The benefit is higher availability in the event of a hd crash, so it's definitely worth it in the long run.
vacantarea suggests some alternatives for the currently deployed MovableType. WordPress and typo are among his picks. He is a seasoned blogger and I'd assume his preferences reflect what other bloggers might think. Would you write something about your mosted wanted features, vacantarea?
I looked at WordPress at one point. It's hot lately and offers some nice features. In terms of migration, WordPress is my top choice.
Drupal is a good and usually overlooked CMS. KernelTrap is powered by it. I'll play with it in the near future.
There are good free software choices. It's really a shame to stick to MT.
bbs is back on line. Hurrah! New IP address: 129.170.26.29
DNS servers 129.170.16.4, 17.4 work fine.
Hmmm, a lot of URLs are broken due to the server relocation. If bbs is up again, redirection would work. For now, let's just hope the visitors are smart enough to somehow find cssa.
vacantarea's pictures are dead.
Usually it's a good idea to weave your pages with relative URLs instead of absolute URLs.
After I filed the request, I still figured that it'd be better if I went to talk to them in person.
Well, just now I went to the Help Desk and inquired about the status of the request. A consultant told me that it had been forwarded to the network group. Unfortunately he didn't know how to get in touch with those people either. (He wanted to ask them about some Blitz glitch yesterday.) He assured me though that I will hear from them at the end of the day or on Monday at latest.
Guess patience is what we need right now.
Lesson learned: request moving before actually moving the server. This at least guarantees the uptime of the server.
Whining stops here.
